I thought the coolest thing about Mitla is that people still live there, all of the other ruins I've seen have been abandoned.  But here, the ruins are surrounded by a lively community of friendly people.  Another interesting thing is the style of geometric designs found on many walls, see the third photo from the top for a good example. Mitla is about 45 km east of Oaxaca, Oaxaca.

The church beside the museum

About 15 km west of Mitla is a bluff with several caves and cliff drawings.

After seeing the sights and buying souvenirs, we invited ourselves into the workshops behind the souvenir stands to watch this fellow weave. He could produce about an inch per minute when he was going full speed.
