When I arrived in Mexico in September
of 1997, I looked up Grisel García Galicia, who I met in Puerta
Vallarta the year before. Grisel and her mother, Gloria
Galicia Tapia adopted me in to their home and family as one
of their own and helped me through those first months of adventure
and adjustment in Mexico. I soon discovered that the
family is so numerous that I had to keep a list of names to
keep everyone straight. As the list grew it became apparent
that a simple list wouldn't do so I devised a
family tree to help keep them straight. So far,
I have about 124 in the tree.
I found the history
of the family opened my eyes to how life is in rural
Mexico, the possibilities to improve ones standard of
living and what family life should be like.
